Hij was een Romeinse generaal in Gallië en Britannië; Magister equitum (369-375). In 368 and 369 he was in charge of the military campaings against the Picts and Scots in Britain, in 370 against the Alamanni in Gaul and, in 372 and 373, against the Sarmatians in the Balkans. However, as a result of political intrigues by enemies at court, he was sentenced to death and executed
