This Buursma family originates in the area of Hogebeintum, Ferwerderadeel, Friesland. Douwe Menses married about 1760 with Antje Tjallings. So far I have been unable to find the marriage of this couple nor the names of Douwe's parents. Although born in 1742 in Janum, Dantumadeel, Antje was not christened until 1792. Most of the descendants of Douwe Menses stayed in Ferwerderadeel, especially in Hallum and Ferwerd. Some wound up in North America. From court records it is evident that some of the Buursma's were quite wealthy. They bought and sold a lot of property. Most of the information in this file comes from the records of the Friesian archives.
